The Tortoise and the Hare

I’m the tortoise

And you are the hare

I play catch up

You’re barely even there

If this is the joke

I’m not laughing

Running circles

Around me, jeering

Why wouldn’t you be faster?

I’ve got baggage called a shell

You’ve got beautiful hind legs

Run with a rhythm so well

But haven’t you heard

“Die young, if you live too fast”?

The finish line in sight

I’ll make my move to pass

So the tortoise

Wins the race

But tells the hare

She’s got a beautiful face

He tells the hare, be modest

Be tame

Whatever the outcome

I’ll love you the same

And so I’m the tortoise

And you’re the hare

Know that the glory is

Better if you share
